Our captain will take you on a journey, sharing the stories and secrets of this special route in Dutch (with an English version available in writing). Upon arrival at the impressive Second Maasvlakte, also known as Maasvlakte 2, a guide will come on board to tell you all about this innovative port area. Relax on the spacious outdoor deck and enjoy the breathtaking views of the ships and installations while learning more about this fascinating place.
Second Maasvlakte: maritime innovations & nature
Rotterdam is among the largest ports in the world. To maintain this position, the largest ships must be able to reach the port. In the deep-sea port of Maasvlakte 2 you get a unique view of the most modern container terminals and the latest offshore installations. With a little luck, you’ll see playful seals surfacing at low tide! Besides the bustling port, the peninsula also offers beautiful beaches and natural environments. These spots are favorites of bathers, adventurous kiters and avid bird watchers.
Once everyone has found a comfortable spot and been welcomed with coffee, tea and apple pie, we will depart from Rotterdam across the Nieuwe Maas River. Enjoy the sights along the way as we sail through the Hartelkanaal to the Maasvlakte. On the return trip, we will take the Nieuwe Waterweg back to Rotterdam. Please note that nautical or weather conditions may affect the sailing route or program.
Container terminals and ocean liners
While the chef and his kitchen brigade prepare a delicious buffet for you, we approach the impressive Maasvlakte 1. Via the Beerkanaal we sail on to Maasvlakte 2, where gigantic container terminals await you. Here you can see 400-meter-long ships with more than 20,000 containers on board, so close you can almost touch them. Don’t forget your camera, because these huge cranes and ships are breathtaking. Return journey
On the way back, we sail up the Nieuwe Waterweg via the Breediep and pass the impressive Maeslantkering, picturesque Maassluis, and the historic villages of Rozenburg and Pernis. Finally, we sail to the iconic cruise ship the SS Rotterdam and view it up close. As icing on the cake, you’ll admire Rotterdam’s famous skyline. You also get a surprise from the chef in the afternoon.
