From September 7 to September 12 the windmills of Kinderdijk will be in the spotlight during the enchanting Illumination Week. Come daydream in a Dutch fairytale landscape, gazing at the sparkling reflection of our illuminated windmills on the water. Experience Illumination Week with Spido on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

Illumination Week 2026

During the Illumination Week, the windmills light up as beacons in the darkness, as we literally puts all nineteen of them in the spotlight. It’s a fantastic opportunity to capture unique shots for photographers. However, it’s also well worth it for all other visitors to come and experience the atmosphere because such a magnificent spectacle is not seen or experienced anywhere else in the world. Below is an overview of the activities during the Illumination Week 2025.

Enchanted Illumination Week in Kinderdijk

On the way to Kinderdijk, dinner will be served with a choice of meat, fish, or vegetarian menu. Then enjoy the beautiful protagonists of this tour up close in Kinderdijk. A delicious dessert will be served on the way back. In the evening, the Rotterdam skyline impresses from the water. We ask you to indicate via this choice form what the menu choice will be.

Do you have difficulty walking? Please note!

Due to the visit to Kinderdijk, this cruise is less suitable for walkers or people with mobility challenges. However, you’re very welcome to join us. Please indicate this in the comments so we can take it into account.

Embarkation at the Spido pontoon at Willemsplein 85 in Rotterdam.

19:00
Welcome speech by the captain, followed by departure to Kinderdijk.
Cruise with (pre-selected) dinner on board.

20:00
Arrival at Kinderdijk

20:45 – 21:15
Light tour with 3 ships from Kinderdijk.

22:00
On board the James Cook for return to Rotterdam while enjoying dessert.

±23:00 uur
Return to Spido pontoon, followed by disembarkation.

– This cruise is not suitable for wheelchairs and persons with walking difficulties.
– The distance to Kinderdijk is 5 to 10 minutes walking distance.
– Other drinks on board are at your own expense.
– On board you can only pay by pin.

Yes, that is possible. If you have purchased a ticket online through Spido.nl, you can rebook your ticket once free of charge.
If your tickets were purchased before April 1, 2026, we charge €1.00 fuel costs per person.

Tickets purchased through Get your Guide or Tiqets cannot be rebooked/changed through the website.
Rebooking is possible up to 5 minutes before the cruise departs.

You can join the waiting list by sending an email to spido@spido.nl. As soon as tickets become available, we will send you a message.

Please note: fake messages sometimes appear on social media from people claiming to sell tickets. Do not respond to these. This mainly happens with popular cruises, such as the Day trip Maasvlakte 2, the New Year’s Eve Cruise, and during the World Port Days.

During the daytrips and theme cruises, the captain provides explanations in Dutch. There is no audio explication on board.

Yes, that’s possible. If you have purchased an admission ticket online via Spido.nl, you can return your admission ticket. Make a request for this by telephone on 010-275 99 99. You will receive your purchase amount back (excluding booking costs). We can change sailing times for you free of charge.
Entrance tickets, for example Day trips or Theme trip tickets, can be canceled 5 working days before departure. You will receive your purchase amount back (excluding booking costs)
Tickets purchased through other channels cannot be returned by Spido.

If you have difficulty walking, we kindly ask you to indicate this in the comments field (when paying for the tickets), so that we can take this into account.

Catering on board is available and at your own expense unless otherwise indicated.
